Sangamon County Interviews

Richard Kahne - Sangamon County

Richard Kahne moved to Springfield, Illinois in 1965 to work for Illinois Bell, and quickly embraced his new home town. “I moved to Springfield for Lincoln,” said Kahne. During his many years there, Richard became involved with the Illinois Tourism Commission, helping to create the Springfield State Journal-Register’s Family of the Week series as well as working on the nation's Bicentennial in 1976. In 1980, Richard worked on a commission for the Illinois and Michigan Canal, and later helped with opening the Lincoln Home to the public.

Jill Loeser and Jean Miller - Sangamon County

Jean Miller (Trainer) and Jill Loeser (Trainer) discussed how and why their ancestor Leonard Trainer obtained the property belonging at one time to William Herndon, the former law partner and biographer of Abraham Lincoln. They also discussed what happened to the house the Herndons lived in through the years up to the present day, and also what happened to the farm, both of which were located in rural Sangamon County, near Cantrall.
