J.D. Washington - Springfield African-American History Foundation

J.D. Washington was born and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas at a time when Jim Crow laws were in effect. After graduating from the University of Arkansas, he worked various teaching jobs throughout Arkansas before moving to Springfield, Illinois in 1970. In his interview, he discusses some of the racism he has noted while working in Springfield Public Schools for nearly twenty years and how race relations have evolved during that time.
